Credit card transfer partners
Citi ThankYou® Rewards is the only credit card transfer partner for American Airlines right now. AA was re-added as an official Citi transfer partner on July 27, 2025, after being gone for over four years. You may now move Citi Points to AAdvantage in groups of 1,000 points at a time, with a 1:1 ratio. That’s a significant thing, especially when there are so many methods to get Citi Points.
You can only use these transfers if you hold one of the following cards: the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card (Rates & Fees), the Citi Strata Premier® Card (Rates & Fees), or the Citi Prestige® Card, which is no longer accessible to new applicants.
Added a transfer partner on July 27, 2025. Citi Strata EliteSM, Citi Strata Premier®, and AT&T Access More Cardmembers all have the same transfer rate. Some other Citi cardholders may be able to get a lower transfer rate of 1,000 to 700.
Other methods to utilize credit card points to book American Airlines tickets
You can’t move points from other programs, including American Express Membership Rewards or Capital One miles, to AAdvantage. You may still use these points to buy American Airlines tickets, though.
First, you may use those credit card points to book American Airlines tickets by navigating to the travel portal of the card issuer. You will earn a set amount of points, but the bad news is that it is generally only one penny each point.
You may also use other programs that provide you access to American Airlines award space, including British Airways Club, Iberia Plus, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Etihad Guest, and more, to book AA trips using credit card points that might be worth a lot.
