Size limit:

For all regions, except to and from Australia or New Zealand, the dimensions of the bags must not be more than 62 in or 158 cm. For the travellers travelling to and from Australia or New Zealand, the dimensions limit remains the same. Remember, that the size limits are calculated by summing up the total outside dimensions of each bag, length + width + height.

Complimentary Bags:

There are some cases in which travellers don’t have to pay fees for three bags. Here are the details of the situations in which the travellers are not required to pay fees for the bags are as follows:

    American Airlines Carry-on bags policy

    As per the American Airlines Baggage policy, travellers are allowed to carry one carry-on bag and one personal item. There are certain rules and regulations regarding the size and weight of personal item as well as carry-on bag which have been mentioned below:

    Rules for carrying personal items

    Personal items like purses or handbags must fit comfortably under the seat in front of you. You also need to take care of the fact that the dimensions of the personal item must not be more than 18 x 14 x 8 inches or 45 x 35 x 20 cm. The following items are not counted as personal items:

    Breast pump
    Small, soft-sided cooler of breast milk
    Diaper bags (1 per child)
    Child safety seats, strollers and medical or mobility devices

    Rules for carry-on bags

    The carry-on bags must fit the size at the airport and the dimensions must not be more than 22 x 14 x 9 inches / 56 x 36 x 23 centimetres including handles and wheels.

    If the carry on items don’t fit in the overhead bin or under the seat, then they need to be checked. Here we would also like to mention that there may be some additional carry-on bag restrictions at some airports or on certain aeroplanes. Soft-sided garment bags, the dimensions of which are up to 51 inches or 130 cm can also be considered as carry-on items.

    American Airlines policy for oversized or overweight bags

    If the dimensions of the bags exceed 126 in or 320 cm, then they will not be accepted. Similarly, if the weight of the bags exceeds 100 lbs or 45 kgs, then they will be rejected.
